Ambition and aspiration
may catapult one into the stratosphere
but once atop the clouds,
life is no longer in harmony.

***

There are times when we feel out of tune with our surroundings, life doesn't seem to go our way, and we are consumed by confusion and disorientation. These unfortunate moments may last for a day, a week, or a year. When we feel like targets of Fate, we are not integrated with Tao. Metaphorically speaking, it has flowed elsewhere.

A being constantly in touch with Tao is idealized, but hard to achieve. Misfortune and discord, often from external sources, will inhibit progress. By falling out of sync with Tao, one may continue to act without full consideration of the future. Whenever this happens, one becomes like the lost bird, singing out of tune. Do not allow yourself to become mired in discord.

Be patient. Ride out the storm. When able, take action and break up stagnation. Whether by waiting, or acting, always try to bring the situation back towards balance. In this way, you can find and rejoin Tao.

Whenever someone is able return to Tao, relief should be felt. That individual is back on track, but that does not mean that Tao will be forever with him/her. There is always a chance of losing the Tao, and one must learn from previous mistakes. Keep the past in mind, to aid in preventing recurrences, and to buoy one's hopes in case of future lean times. Once Tao becomes part and parcel to one's being, it will be instantly recognizable. In this way, one will be protected against losing faith, even in times of discord.
