Lake of the Isles,
painted the coldest of colors.
A weeping willow's icy tears
reflect the dazzling light of day
as the flock rises to depart.

~inspired by Deng Ming-Dao
After undertaking a long period of self-cultivation, one's core of accumulated energy reaches a momentous threshold before bursting to life, full of breath and vibrancy. Without the build-up of momentum, this moment of release would forever be unrealized. The long years of preparation and experience have made possible the freeing of the soul, not merely dissipation but a strength of focus, which lifts one into a higher state of awareness. When spiritual energy emerges, one becomes like a swan, taking flight from still water.

Once you have achieved this level of stored potential energy, you will be a different person than before. You may, on one hand, take genuine comfort in the spiritual attainment you have achieved. On the other, you are forced to see all possibilities that lay open for you to explore. No more can you subvert awareness, no more can you remain ignorant.

With the emergence of great possibilities, comes the need for great responsibility. (Thanks Uncle Ben). If you divurge from the path you have set, in order to explore new vistas, never forget how far you have flown You need to arrange for your return at the proper time. You alone must decide how to arrange your life. Even if you become a strong, independent flier, you must still use wisdom to plot your course.
