Wrinkles - 皺紋 - Zhòuwén

Peaks and valleys,
etched into the skin-
a furrowed brow,
tattoo of age;
Life's proof
upon the body.

~inspired by Deng Ming-Dao

The older one gets, the more conscious one is of aging. We can barely remember childhood innocence, when we were seemingly joyful. We are startled when we see the still images of our past, youthful and unmarked by age. These pictures are a record by which we can acknowledge our aging process. There is no way to escape the marks of life.

Every experience is recorded in our genetic memory, a spreading tapestry painted upon our soul. To a large degree, the pattern and particulars are up to us. If we choose to visit a tattoo artist, we must select the picture. In life, it is we who select what we will become by the choices we make. There is no reason to go through life thoughtlessly, to let accident dictate our life. You would not choose a blind man for a tattoo artist. If you did, you would have yourself to blame for the ugly result.

Will you emerge from tribulations, defeated or triumphant? The choice is up to you.
