Delayed Daily Musing - March 27th, 2013 - Flow -流 - Liú

Flow -流 - Liú

If a mountain of earth can be moved,
even the river will change its flow.

~inspired Deng Ming-Dao

Except for occasional flooding, even the mighty Yellow river keeps to its banks. It flows where it finds openings, between cliffs, rocks and rice paddies.  If the river is dammed, the cliff walls erode, or the boulders in the river bed shift, the river will change its course. These slight fluctuations, over time, can become massive shifts in direction or current. If the earth moves far enough, it could even be made to flow backwards.

Such it is with our lives as well. Once the fixed objects we judge our lives upon move, our circumstances change accordingly. If we move to another city, or even another neighborhood, our life will change. If you situate your business in a busy district, you will prosper. If you build your house in the proper way, in the right location, you will be content. By arranging furniture to enhance and accent open space, your life will be comfortable. If you eat correctly and exercise regularly, your life will be prolonged. In short, followers of Tao realize the importance of flow in every aspect of life. Everything can and will be affected by these small choices, made many, many times on a daily basis. This process is conscious manipulation of the material world, altering the parameters for life to create advantageous circumstances.

Life is the flow of energy. It is the air we breath, the force behind weather patterns, the combined intellect of the human race. It keeps the rivers flowing, our hearts beating, and the clouds moving. The flow of energy dictates the animate and inanimate, moving constantly from fixed points, back and forth to the point that we cannot say where it is until we look. Find these cardinal points, where energy gathers and can be utilized to change the flow. The freedom to choose, the freedom to change, this belongs to us and us alone.
